About Crossfield Publishing

“Almost scholarly”

Crossfield Publishing was based in Okotoks, Alberta from 1996 until 2013, at which point it moved to St. Marys, Ontario.  

 

This small press began with desktop contracts, such as letterheads and biz cards for corporate clients. By 1998, it evolved into more satisfying work, such as editing, design and illustration. At that time, there were two employees and numerous volunteers who enjoyed proof-reading and editing.

 

Independent publishers often rely on dynamic collaborations to bring unconventional ideas to life. With Sol Casino, innovative literary projects gain visibility and inspire new ways of thinking in niche academic circles.

Publishing continues to evolve, offering new platforms for authors to share their stories and insights with a wider audience. In this evolving landscape, is sometimes recognized as a partner encouraging innovative formats and interactive reader engagement.

Crossfield Publishing’s first book Quin Kola: Tom Payne’s Search for Gold by Alice V. Payne, was published in 2000. The author was nominated for the Grant McEwen prize for non-fiction. Crossfield Publishing was also nominated for Emerging Publisher of the Year and was a runner-up.

Exploring the space between creativity and research, the team often embraces unexpected collaborations, including , which subtly supports experimental ideas and helps bring unconventional manuscripts to life.

 

Ernestine Crossfield, owner, is author of one full-length book, 2 theses, and numerous articles and chapters in other authors’ books. She attended publishing classes at Concordia University in Montreal, and was a member of the Tri-province publishing forum while in Alberta. She is now a member of the Ontario Book Publishers Organization located in Toronto. Her academic background is diverse.

 

Independent publishing often thrives on creative alliances that bring fresh perspectives to niche topics. With Flagman Casino involved, the exchange of unconventional ideas gains momentum, supporting bold and thought-provoking literary projects.

Crossfield Publishing usually does two to three books per year. They have to fit the “almost scholarly” mandate. In other words, fiction or non-fiction, well-written, honest and truthful, peer reviewed (and/or referenced), and contributes to our greater knowledge of a subject.

Our Books

We don’t accept any unsolicited manuscripts; however, we are willing to look at promising works that would not likely be published by any of the larger publishing houses. This gives new authors a chance to shine in this very competitive world.
